RE: Mid Atlantic Group: New Years Eve Party,Elk Neck MD 12/31/08

I believe some folks dragging 33 footers around are finding all the sites to be challenging though! LOL! I'm left with no choice but to go there this weekend and measure them for myself. And DAMN if I've gotta stop at Woody's for a filet mignon and fried flounder on the way back. LOL I'll be bringing a tape measure to map out which ones would be better for the XL crowd.

That's what happens when you buy a 33' TT. I think you will have to go to another CG. No, but I fear I will have to go back there to look over the sites and see which are suitable before making the reservation. I meant to do it during the NYE trip but it was too damn cold. Oh well, good project for the weekend and I can stop at Woody's on the way home.

RE: 2009 Mid-Atlantic Killens Pond Gathering Apr 3-5 2009

32 feet....the site says both sites should fit something up to 35 feet...am I in trouble ?? I don't know. If I recall this afternoon, I thought 5 & 6 had wooden beams laying out the dimensions of the site and they looked kinda tight for a 30+ footer. I mean, there's plenty of room past the barriers, but the question is whether you want to roll past them and possibly sink in the mud?

My biggest problem is not remembering which sites were large enough for the behemoth and wide enough to allow a campfire while still level enough so I don't have to back it uphill.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group ELK NECK MD Sept. 25-27, 2009

Another sign the economy isn't doing so well..... Maryland proposes fee for E-ZPass users Why is it that as drivers, we're urged to drive less, save gas, reduce greenhouse gases, and when we comply, they bend us over for our efforts? E-Z Pass was supposed to streamline the process since they won't have to pay toll takers anymore. Now they're going to make it cheaper for me to burn more gas waiting in line to see the toll takers they wanted to fire. LOL

Forgot to check. . .how soon can we book on the Elk Neck website? Anyone know off the top of their head? You can book now if you like, just go to the link on page 1 of this thread. One thing I *am* going to do is change sites. I didn't like being so close to the fire ring that I couldn't have a fire with the awning out.

RE: 2009 Mid-Atlantic Killens Pond Gathering Apr 3-5 2009

Speaking of which, I changed MY site as well. As much as I liked the closeness from last year, I was upset that I didn't have enough room on my site to have my own campfire without burning the trailer down. After driving around D-loop I noticed D-2 is a WIDE site and long enough for the beast too. Still within rock throwing, name calling, spitting, and stumble-back-after-the-jello-shots distance from C-loop, so I'm pleased. LOL

Well, I don't have a propane heater, but I've got a 35,000 BTU kerosene heater to offer.

True true... I wouldn't be against the idea of rolling the dice and going back to Elk Neck in the hopes of better weather. We can meet up to socialize in the bath house if need be, and Woody's is a DEFINITE do-again.

OMG....Robo has a hooded sweatshirt, coat, sweats, hat AND gloves on !!! Must have been cold He did that at OUR request. Whenever one of us felt cold, we made Robo put on another layer because looking at him in shorts and a t-shirt caused our hypothermia.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group: New Years Eve Party,Elk Neck MD 12/31/08

It was a fire starter with a thyroid problem. Y'know how people make fire starters out of sawdust or dryer lint & wax in a cardboard egg container? Well this was the same concept except instead of an egg holder, I used a paper grocery bag. All the sawdust from my summer projects, all the dryer lint I accumulated over the course of a year, and 1½ gallons of wax (mixed with ½ gallon of tiki torch fuel) in a paper grocery bag and it was the world's biggest fire starter. Unfortunately, Scott already had his fire going, so I tossed it on at midnight to celebrate. I expected it to burn for an hour, and it out-performed my expectations. The wood could have been soaking wet and it could have been 20-below, and this thing would have started the fire. We had to intentionally break it apart several times to get it to die down. We could have sat by it with NO wood on the fire and kept warm. LOL The photo of Scott was taken after it had already been burning for over an hour and it was still 9" in diameter.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group: New Years Eve Party,Elk Neck MD 12/31/08

It was YOUR satellite sir. Guess I'll just have to build another one for Killens, although since I only do one load of wash per week and have no wood-working projects in the foreseeable future, it might have to wait until Elk Neck in September. I'm SURE I'll have projects during the Summer to make lots of sawdust. I'll admit I was pleased with how it turned out. Aside from the pretty sparkly parts as the sawdust grains burned, it let me know that if it were TRULY used to ignite the fire it would have burned by itself for the hour or so I had originally guesstimated.

I still would have loved to wake up one of those mornings to find some snow coming down. Not a lot, just an inch or so. Glad to see you made it home safely.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group: New Years Eve Party,Elk Neck MD 12/31/08

I suppose I should let the leftovers (Don, Scott, and Craig) know what happened when I left. For those of you just tuning in, my galley tank froze up for some reason and I was unable to drain it. But the valve opened easy enough, meaning the blockage was somewhere between the valve and the tank buried in the belly, so I decided to leave it open for the ride home and let nature take its course as I traveled South into warmer climes. (BTW, there was only 8 gallons at most in there and it was nothing more than soapy BIODEGRADABLE dishwater). The ice plug let loose on Rt 1 South, just past the Middletown exit. I was in the right lane doing my usual 60 MPH to keep from swaying and some little black sports car came whizzing by at (I'm guessing) 85 MPH. Ok, so I'll admit I jostled the steering wheel in the hopes it would release at the right time, but IT WORKED. As he came up on the TT's rear bumper, it let loose toward the fast lane. I had forgotten that I poured the remainder of each morning's coffee down the drain, so the water itself was brown. I'm sure he thought it was my black tank since he swerved sharply away from the TT as he passed. I didn't notice any single-finger waving, so I guess he was too busy talking on his cell phone to flip me the bird. Ah, poetic justice is served. LOL In case you ever end up in this situation, a word of caution... Venting drains that are FORWARD of the axle WILL allow the trailer tires to kick whatever goop you release into your wheel wells as the deluge ebbs. I've gotta wash the TT tomorrow, so it's no big deal, but it looks like the left side of the camper went off-road to get home. LOL
